Furfuryl alcohol is primarily used as a monomer for furan resins, which are used in foundry binders for sand casting, corrosion-resistant mortars, and industrial adhesives and coatings. It also functions as a solvent and a chemical intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other organic compounds. Other uses include as a plasticizer, a concrete modifier, a flavour and fragrance ingredient, and a potential biofuel or rocket fuel component.
